About IMI

Samir Parmar, Architect / Documentary film maker
I remember the day when my friend informed me about the IMI Filmmaking Foundation program. I had a big doubt- what can be learnt in 12 days session. Though I had assisted in a film, I was not fully aware with all the theoretical and practical aspects of film production. So I joined the course. At IMI, I got really astonished from the day one. I had started getting the knowledge which I was exactly looking for. I got hands on experience by making my four exercise films which filled me with confidence. Here I realized that films are like building. Making of any beautiful film requires lots and lots of planning, patient and manpower.
Arkaja Upadhyay, Assistant Director
I had never ever thought of a professional career in the Film industry. I was in the last semester of my Bachelors in Art History at Faculty of Fine Arts, when IMI came to conduct Filmmaking Foundation Program at M.S. University, Vadodara. Initially I was least interested but on the insistence of our dean, I joined the course. Amazingly, it carved my career path. Thanks to the films I made during the IMI Program, I got my first job in Moving Pixel- a Production house in Ahmedabad, where I made documentaries. Within six months, I moved to Mumbai and joined Pumpkin Pictures and worked in 3 Ad films. Now I am a freelancer, working as an Assistant Director in an English language Film "Damn 999", an Indo-Hollywood Production. Today I am flying internationally, thanks to IMI.
Pratik Jain, Associate Creative Head, Television Production House
I knew a lot of things about filmmaking but they were all jumbled up in my mind. After the course at IMI, I?ve learnt the nuances of filmmaking. It gave me a clear picture of the procedure involved in making of a cinema. Seeing my show reel which I had made during our course, I got a job in country?s biggest production house. Now I am GOD. I create characters and tell stories on small screen. All in all, a brilliant experience and enjoyed every moment of it. IMI truly rocks!!
Dr. Harsh Vyas, M.D, Paediatrician / Filmmaker
At IMI, I realized that filmmaking is great fun but a hell of a lot of hard work. Simple shots that we take for granted as part of the audience can take hours to design and shoot, but in the end it is worth the toil. My classmates at IMI made it fun to come back to school again where time knew no bound as we dwelt in great details of various aspects of filmmaking. The faculty was extremely encouraging yet critical and told us in no uncertain terms what our short comings were. The Filmmaking program at IMI has truly been an extremely and enriching experience.
Saif Shaikh, Student
The sessions are long and tiring at times but it is all worthwhile. The faculty is very knowledgeable and their teaching technique is innovative which helped us to grasp the entire process of filmmaking in a very interesting way. IMI course is must for every aspiring film maker.
Krutika Patel, Student
IMI as a film school is really great institute. All my life I had seen faculties who come in class, teach and go away. But here first time I saw faculty is really getting involved with students each and every activity that matters a lot. That helped all of us to bond together from day one. Here not only we learnt about filmmaking, but also how to work in a team.
Lisa Rodrigues, Student
They say that if you are having fun, you are learning. My experience at IMI has been absolutely wonderful. I have learnt a lot, not about everything that goes into making a film but also working in a group, with people who are almost complete strangers. I learnt that to make a good film, good teamwork and discipline are essential as well as proper delegation of work.
Vijay Sanap, Architect / Filmmaking Student
Before I joined IMI, as a layman I thought I knew film and understood filmmaking. How few weeks can change that perception of cinema is to be seen to be believed. The Institute of Moving Images has taught me different aspects of filmmaking- Scripting, Production, Direction, Cinematography & Editing. But more importantly it has taught me to observe my life in a new light. It has brought discipline and a more structured way of thinking and execution. IMI has helped me find myself.
Shodhan Hegde, Advertising Copy Writer
Three cheers to IMI!!! Attending the IMI program was my way of taking some concrete action towards fulfilling my biggest dream- becoming a documentary filmmaker. I was, however, apprehensive initially. But thanks to the immense involvement of all the faculties in shaping our knowledge, their method of teaching, their personal passion towards movies and their desire to see us students succeed in this career has had a very positive and profound effect on us. There is excitement always when they teach and most of the things which they taught will probably stay with us through out. I have definitely gained more than I expected and cannot help feeling a sense of loss as this course ends.
Loy Gonsalves, CEO, Advertising Agency
IMI Filmmaking Foundation is very intensive and I should have done it in my college days. The course has reduced the fear of the unknown and opened up an opportunity to explore the craft of filmmaking. It is now more understandable. The experience of four short films, which I made here are helping me immensely in conceptualizing the commercials for my clients.
Dr. Kalyan Gaud, M.D , Professor of Medicine
The Filmmaking Foundation program in many ways has changed my life. Now I have acquired the cinematic vision and learnt the practical essence of filmmaking. I have got a road map for making films which has been my passion. The mystery of cinema has been unraveled and now I look forward to the thrills of Filmmaking. Everything is now possible. The faculty has been exceptional and I salute them all.
Vikram Veturi, Animation Director, Reliance Big Animation
IMI Faculty is really rocking. I liked their way of teaching. It is really great. I gained a lot of confidence and got the mantra that IMI has given us- "No Guts, No Glory".
Pankaj Rana, Assistant Director
It was the first day, first class in IMI and Pankaj Sir's words still ring in my ears- ?No Guts, No Glory?. That?s why after completing my filmmaking Foundation Program, I gathered the courage to leave my comfort zone and come to Mumbai from Pune in pursuit of a career in films. Initial days were indeed difficult hunting for the job. Then an offer came to work as an assistant director for a television serial without any pay for initial four-five months. Thanks to the professional skill I had acquired during my training at IMI, the director took a liking for my work within a few days of joining the unit and I started getting my salary after a first month. Currently, I am working for two serials- one for Zee TV and another for Sony TV. Thanks to IMI, Today I am in an industry where my heart is.
Somesh Bakshi, Film Producer
Hats off to you guys for providing us all an opportunity, not only to dream but the courage to realize our dreams. Now I dare to make films. I am producing my first feature film.
